Holidays in Kavos
Greece Main Guide | Corfu Main Guide
The lively resort of Kavos is situated on the southern most tip of the Greek Island of Corfu – also known as the Emerald Isle. It was originally an old fishing village, which today is a very popular holiday destination amongst tourists and holidaymakers (not needed). If you're (changed from you are – remember chatty style) the kind of person who enjoys lying on the beach all day before a wild night of partying, then Kavos is definately for you.
One of Corfu's liveliest resorts, Kavos is packed with over one hundred bars and clubs which come to life during the summer months. All of which can be enjoyed by all of those who consider themselves a bit of a party animal. For those holidaymakers who aren't so keen on all the commotion of the pubs and clubs, there is plenty on offer for you.
Why not participate in some of the water sports, which are also available during the summer months. These range from the ever-so-popular 'Banana Boats' to the high adrenalin and high rising 'Para gliders'. If water sports aren't for you then the island also boasts an 18-hole golf course, cricket grounds and tennis courts.
Kavos is surrounded by a massive stretch of beautiful beaches and shallow waters that are backed by bars, restaurants and accommodation. The weather is mostly dry and hot so don't forget to take the sun block. Relax on the beach and soak up some of the luscious Mediterranean sun, which usually reaches around 28c-30c during the summer.
If you prefer to visit the Island in the winter months then you will still be welcomed by the Mediterranean weather which reaches up to 16c. For those wishing to see the tranquil, more magical side of the Island then the winter months would best suit you. The beauty of the Island with its blankets of emerald green vegetation, golden shorelines and crystal blue sea can be seen all year round as this popular destination offers something for everyone.
Places to visit
The historic village of Kassiopi lies 22 miles away from Corfu Town. It is an attractive and colourful resort that boasts views of Albania. It is reached by a narrow road that winds around the foot of Mount Pandorkraton. A variety of shops, bars, restaurants and small markets are on offer. The town is also known for its serene pebbly beaches.
All of those interested in aspects of Greek culture may also want to take a visit to the Museum of Asian Art. This was founded in 1927 as a Chinese and Japanese Art Museum. In 1974 many more contributions were made to the museum and it became known as the Asian Art Museum that now holds works of art by many artists from in and around Asia. Some of these collections come from the likes of Gregarious Manos and Petros Almanachos.
Or you may just fancy taking a tour of the Island. There are three main popular tours that are on offer to those visiting Corfu. The Petrakis Line, The Kalypso Star and The Grotto Boat Tour all offer something different as they educate tourists on aspects of Greek life and Culture.
Beaches
If its beaches you're looking for then its beaches all the way. The Island of Corfu is surrounded by many beaches with huge stretches of golden sands. Three of the most popular on the island include Agios Gordios, Mirtiotissa Beach and Paleokastritsa. Agios Gordios is a gorgeous beach that is perfect for sunbathing because of its wide stretch of sand. Mirtiotissa offers exactly the same. Paleokastritsa is based in a historical town and is better known for being a religious site. Whatever the type of beach or holiday you're looking for, I'm sure Kavos and Corfu can offer it all.
