Holidays in Caleta De Fuste

Spain Main Guide | Fuerteventura Main Guide

Located on Fuerteventura in the Canary Isles, Caleta de Fuste lies on the east coast, with instant access to excellent beaches and clear warm waters. The resort is about 15km from the airport, making for a fast transfer to your hotel.

The island of Fuerteventura boasts an amazing 152 beaches, totalling about 70km of pristine sand. It only rains about five days a year, so visitors can be sure of plenty of beach time. Some beaches are popular with visitors and are quite busy but if seclusion is your thing then you can find your very own tropical paradise without another soul in sight.

Caleta de Fuste is a fairly quiet resort catering more to those who want to relax and unwind than to the party crowd. The resort is very family-friendly, and most visitors tend to be families and couples. The central location of Caleta de Fuste makes it an ideal base of operations for expeditions to explore the rest of the island.

Many shops, bars and restaurants can be found on the palm tree-lined single main street. Sidestreets lead to the harbour and the beach. The beach is artificial, constructed in a man-made bay shaped like a horseshoe. This arrangement creates very sheltered waters with virtually no currents, making playing in the sea very safe.

The resort is under constant development with new facilities being added all the time. Recent developments include a shopping centre and a golf course.

Accommodation and Food

Caleta de Fuste offers a range of accommodation to match all budgets. Hotels and apartment complexes are available. Most have facilities including gardens, bars, restaurants, swimming pools and, in some cases, mini-golf.

As you might expect, fish is popular on Fuerteventura, and tends to be very good, as is steak. The resort also has English, Chinese, Indian and Greek restaurants. For those who want to make their own dinner arrangements, there are several supermarkets within easy reach.

Activities

There is more to Fuerteventura than beaches and good weather. Watersports are of course very popular. Windsurfing, snorkelling and jet skis are available, and there is a diving centre. The harbour is home to many yachts and other boats. Some of them are available for trips. Dolphins and pilot whales are a common sight outside the bay.

The Canary Isles are a popular destination for golfers. Fuerteventura has only one course at present, just outside the village. It is a Par 70, 18-hole course with three lakes many palm trees to complicate matters.

Night life is sedate and relaxing, revolving mainly around good food and leisurely drinks in the resort's many bars.

Heading inland, visitors can enjoy the gorgeous countryside with its contrast of mountains and desert. Picturesque local villages offer a chance to soak up some culture along the way. Other inland attractions include a zoo, camel farms and several museums. Alternatively, you could just take a wander around the interior of the island and enjoy the scenery from the many viewpoints.
