Holidays in Corralejo
Spain Main Guide | Fuerteventura Main Guide
The resort of Corralejo lies at the northernmost tip of Fuerteventura in the Canary Isles, surrounded by sand dues and clear blue waters. Transfer time from the airport is about 40 minutes.
The island of Fuerteventura boasts an amazing 152 beaches, totalling about 70km of pristine sand. It only rains about five days a year, so visitors can be sure of plenty of beach time. Some beaches are popular with visitors and are quite busy but if seclusion is your thing then you can find your very own tropical paradise without another soul in sight.
The mountainous interior of the island can be explored on foot or in a rented vehicle. Alternatively, you can take a helicopter tour from the airport.
Corralejo is the most popular and the busiest resort on the island, with many shops, bars and restaurants to choose from. A variety of watersports are on offer, including diving, jet skis, windsurfing and water-skiing.
Night life is fairly lively, though those seeking a real party town should look elsewhere. There are a number of themed bars in town, including an Irish pub and a blues & rock bar.
Accommodation and Food
Hotels in Corralejo range from 4-star with many features including swimming pools, gardens, bars and restaurant and a disco, to more modest establishments to suit those on a tighter budget. There is also good choice of apartment complexes.
As you might expect, fish is popular on Fuerteventura, and tends to be very good, as is steak. Corralejo has a wide range of restaurants serving a considerable variety of dishes. You can find a very English carvery or cuisine from Spain, the Mediterranean, India and even farther afield.
Activities
Watersports are of course very popular in Corralejo. Windsurfing, snorkelling and jet skis are available, and there is a diving centre.
The Canary Isles are a popular destination for golfers. Fuerteventura has only one course at present, just outside resort of Caleta de Fustes. It is a Par 70, 18-hole course with three lakes many palm trees to complicate matters.
Heading inland, visitors can enjoy the gorgeous countryside with its contrast of mountains and desert. Picturesque local villages offer a chance to soak up some culture along the way. Other inland attractions include Oasis Park, which has a camel reserve as well as reptiles and parrots. The part offers a buffet of Canarian dishes.
Elsewhere on the island are camel farms, windmills demonstrating traditional methods of milling, and several museums. Alternatively, you could just take a wander around the interior of the island and enjoy the scenery from the many viewpoints.
