Cheap holidays in Fuerteventura
Spain Main Guide | Fuerteventura Main Guide
Just like the rest of the Canary
Islands - Fuerteventura is sunny almost all year
round and is surrounded by beautiful beaches and
crystal clear sea's. Fuerteventura is relatively
undiscovered and with more than 150 idyllic sandy
beaches you'll not be fighting for a quite spot.
If your looking for a relaxing holiday away from
the crowds then this is the island for you.
The islands busiest resort Caleta De Fuste is
only about 5 miles from the airport so you can
be off the plane and on the beach in less than
a hour! The town has a long main street and contains
a large number of restaurants and bars. You may
also want to visit Corralejo and consider taking
the ferry to Lanzarote for a change of pace. Corralejo
has plenty of restaurants and some good shopping.

There are loads of options to spice up your holiday
and get a bit more active if youve had enough
of lying on the beach. Windsurfing is extremely
popular on the island due to the strong offshore
winds and you can rent equipment and take lessons
in a variety of locations. The World Wind Surfing
Championships are held at Jandia every year with
competitors from all over the world. You may want
to take a boat ride to see the whales, dolphins
and turtles or even try your hand at big game
fishing, sailing or horse riding. The seas are
teaming with all kinds of marine life and Lobos
Island just off the coast has been declared a
Marine National Park. It is considered a fantastic
location for diving and snorkelling with excellent
visibility.
When it comes to food, like much of the canaries
the emphasis is on fresh fish and local produce.
There are plenty of traditional restaurants and
you may want to try specialties such as braised
baby goat, sancocho de pescado (a fish soup made
with sweet potato) and puchero Canario (a hugely
filling local stew with mixed meat and vegetables).
Once a week there is a market at Jandia which
is something of a bargain hunters paradise, especially
for the local handicrafts in leather and beautifully
embroidered linen, other bargains are electrical
goods and of course tax free perfumes.
