Holidays in Magaluf
Spain Main Guide | Majorca Main Guide
Majorca's Magaluf beach resort is one of the
oldest resorts in Majorca and still remains ever
popular with visitors to the Balearic Islands.
Situated in the liveliest part of Majorca, a mere
ten miles west of Palma and 15 miles from the
airport, the bustling resort of Magaluf is one
of the largest and most popular on the island,
offering wonderful long white beaches, a wealth
of entertainment and an exhausting nightlife.
Much has been done to improve Magaluf over recent
years with some of the 60s apartment blocks being
demolished and a new palm-lined promenade being
created. It is, however, still very much a party
town popular with 18 to 30s looking for sun, sand
and the odd San Miguel. Quieter areas can be found
on the outskirts of Magaluf, in the suburb of
Torrenova and in neighboring Palma Nova. High-rise
hotels and apartment blocks line an impressive
sandy beach, with bars, restaurants and discos
- often bursting with British tourists - tucked
underneath and round about.
Magaluf is at its most popular between June and
September. In the winter months, however, many
of the livelier nightspots close down and the
hotels market themselves to an older crowd.

Sightseeing in Magaluf
Day tips to Palma a popular and very accessible,
with buses leaving every half-hour. Alternatively,
the no. 50 is a sightseeing bus which visits all
the main attractions in Palma before returning
to Magaluf.
Magaluf Beaches
The heart of Magaluf is focused around the resort's
spectacular, one-kilometer beach: a clean, beautifully-maintained
expanse of white sand. Kite surfing, jet skiing
and parascending can all be arranged from here,
and there is tennis and karting nearby, plus the
popular Aquacity water park on the edge of the
resort.
Shopping in Magaluf
The main promenade and streets in Magaluf's town
center are lined with dozens of shops selling
beachwear and souvenirs. More varied shopping
can also be found in Palma, an easy taxi or bus
ride away. Every Monday there is a popular market
in Calvia, six miles inland from Magaluf - good
purchases here include jewelry, porcelain and
leather goods. There is also a popular market
in Inca each Thursday for those who want to go
farther afield. There are good supermarkets in
Magaluf that stock all the well-known international
brands, as well as local produce. Most things
are good value, particularly alcohol and cigarettes.
Activities in Magaluf
Most activities in and around Magaluf are focused
around Magaluf's superb beach. Here, all sorts
of watersports are available and boat trips can
be organized ranging from a short cruise along
the coast, to a trip in 'Nemo', a glass-sided
submarine. The Wester Water Park is nearby and
has lots of great slides - fun for all ages; it
has a free bus service every Wednesday. Tennis
and bowling are just some of the other activities
available in the resort, and nearby karting, golf
and cycling can be arranged.
Magaluf is Majorca's entertainment and clubbing
capital. The permutations for evening entertainment
are endless, but Magaluf's must-see is the Pirates
Adventure themed dinner/show. This is an excellent
place to take the family, apart from on the weekly
adults' night - usually Sunday. The largest nightclub
on the island is BCM, which attracts top DJs from
around the world. Other clubs include Bananas,
School Disco, Boomerang and Carwash (60s and 70s
music). Most clubs don't get going until around
11pm, but there are lots of good bars nearby which
offer good music and large jugs of sangria. Popular
ones include BCM Cafe, Panama Jacks, Bar 29, Lennon's
and Eva's.
Culture in Magaluf
Palma and the old towns of Calvia and Andraitx
should be visited by those in search of a little
culture, and the scenic interior and north-west
coast is worth exploring for those looking to
escape from the crowds.

tastes. Indian, Chinese, Mexican, Italian, and

food outlets and lots of pubs and cafés
offering full English breakfasts and Premiership
football. More upscale restaurants can also be
